Crafting our Farmhouse Sliding Door - The Process

The next phase in renovating our Hayloft Showroom continues with the reconstruction of our showroom door. This was an exciting opportunity to display the diverse range of techniques in which copper can be utilised; other than our distinctive handcrafted Copper and Brass taps, showers and handles.

Expanding on their carpentry skills, our workshop team; Robin and Henry were asked to sketch designs for the door, finalising on a farmhouse barn style sliding door.

Work began by taking out the old door of our upstairs showroom and restoring the framework and hinges. If you're a returning reader here on our blog posts at Proper Copper Design, you’ll know that we strongly believe in reducing our carbon footprint. That’s why we maintain our values to reclaim timber sourced from waste building materials from around Brighton & Hove, to give this rustic wood a new life in our Hayloft showroom; following in the same style as our renovation of the Hayloft staircase.

A lot of hard work and dedication went into restoring the timbers from our workshop manager Robin; who set about sanding the wood back to its original natural state and bevelling the edges.

To bring the reclaimed timber and copper designs in The Hayloft together, we used traditional copper nails to stud the wooden timber frame. As well as bordering the inside of the door with matching copper trim framing.

The finishing touch to this vintage sliding door was to add a modern twist with one of our own Chunky Copper Door Handles finished with a lacquering solution to seal the polished copper.

Attaching the track and roller to the door framework brought the whole project together and tied rustic aesthetic of The Hayloft Showroom and our office workspace together.
