We love our planet and we believe that no matter how small the business, our society should join together to help save the environment in any way we can.
Makers all over the World are growing more conscious of their choices of material and are making changes to recycle and use less resources. Here are 5 pointers as to why our business was green in 2019!
It is highly improbable that we are going to run out of resources of copper. Historically there has always been, on average, 40 years of reserves and 200 years of resources left since 1950. In addition, recycling, innovation and mining exploration continue to contribute to the long-term availability of copper.
Copper recycling also plays an important role in coppers availability since today’s 'primary copper' is tomorrow’s recycled material. The recovery and recycling of copper also helps to satisfy the increasing demand and to build a sustainable future for future generations.
We donate a percentage of our sales to One Tree Planted, a non- profit organisation focused on Global Reforestation. As an environmental charity, they are dedicated to making it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, creating a healthier climate, protecting biodiversity and help to reforestation efforts around the world. All by planting trees!
Today’s global economy requires efficient use of raw materials, as well as material conservation through its reuse and recycling. Copper recycling is among these natural materials. On average, copper products contain 35 percent recycled content, which significantly reduces copper’s sustainable development footprint. It is estimated that since 1900, two-thirds of the 550 million tonnes of copper mined is still in productive use.
If we have any copper products that do not quite make the cut then we will have these weighed in and recycled which is the rare benefit of using this metal, recycling without any loss in strength.
We run our workshop in the same way that we run our home, in all areas from admin to kitchen duties we keep track of our recycling and try our best to reduce our paper waste.
When we create the various copper finishes in our workshop we only use household chemicals so that we are not creating harmful pollution or working in a toxic environment. Our workshop is light and airy and full of jungle plants which purify the air and improve our happiness levels.
At last but no means least we have our very own allotment on a hill over looking Brighton where we grow our own, from tomatoes to marrows 2019 had a great yield in which we benefited from all summer! Yummy! :)
