A TMV (Thermostatic Mixing Valve) is a type of valve designed to control and regulate the temperature of water in a plumbing system. It is commonly used in showers, baths, and other fixtures where maintaining a safe and comfortable water temperature is essential.
The TMV valve blends hot and cold water together to achieve a desired mixed temperature. It typically consists of an inlet for hot water, an inlet for cold water, and an outlet for the blended water.

Above - An example of a TMV valve fitted to a Proper Copper Design mixer tap. The valve takes a hot (highlighted in red) and cold (highlighted in blue) water feed and outlets the desired mixed temperature.

Scalding prevention: One of the primary reasons to install a TMV valve is to prevent scalding accidents. The valve helps maintain a consistent and safe water temperature by blending hot and cold water together before it reaches the showerhead. This ensures that the water temperature remains within a safe range and reduces the risk of scalding, particularly in households with young children, elderly individuals, or people with reduced mobility.
