Will copper or brass rust, go green, or require much maintenance outdoors?

No copper and brass do not rust like iron. Instead, they develop a natural patina over time, deepening in tone to rich browns and eventually, in some environments, a blue-green verdigris. This change is not damage, but rather a protective layer that makes these metals ideal for outdoor use.

If you love the character of ageing metal, there’s very little maintenance involved. But if you'd prefer to keep the original shine, we offer satin lacquered finishes to slow tarnishing, as well as maintenance kits with polish and cloths. Unlacquered copper typically begins to darken within a few weeks depending on climate and exposure.

Whether you want a sculptural, aged look or a polished centrepiece, the finish is up to you.

Can I install this tap myself, or do I need a plumber?

Yes our copper and brass tap are designed to be easy to install at home. For mains-fed or custom plumbing setups, we recommend using a plumber. Every tap comes with all the fixings and clear step-by-step instructions to get you set up quickly.

Can I customise the tap to suit my space, style, or height?

Yes every Proper Copper tap can be tailored to you. We offer a range of customisations, including different tap handle designs, and spout projections.

If you're taller or designing for a specific setup, we can also adjust the overall height or spout length. Looking for something truly unique? We welcome bespoke commissions and can create one-off pieces with your preferred finishes, features, or even engraved detailing.

How long will my order take, do you ship internationally, and what if I need to change something?

We handcraft every Proper Copper tap to order, typically within 7 - 15 working days. If you need your order sooner, just let us know we’ll do our best to prioritise it. We ship worldwide, and include any plumbing adaptors required for international setups.

Once dispatched, you’ll receive full tracking details so you can follow your delivery in real time.

Need to make a change or return something? We understand plans can shift. If your item isn’t customised, you can usually return it within 30 days - just contact us as soon as possible so we can help.

What if something doesn’t fit, goes wrong, or I need help after it arrives?

We’re here to support you every step of the way. Your tap comes with full installation instructions, and most setups are simple. If something doesn’t fit (like a bracket, or plumbing thread), we’ll get the right part sent out, including NPT adaptors for US customers.

If you’re unsure how to install it, feeling stuck, or something isn’t quite right - just send us a photo or message. We’ll walk you through it or help your installer directly.

What finish options are available, and how do they hold up outdoors?

Our showers are available in a range of weather-resistant finishes across both copper and brass. Each is carefully developed to suit outdoor use and enhance your space with character and craftsmanship.

Standard Finish:

Natural Copper or Brass (Brushed) - this is our only non-lacquered finish, designed to age naturally and form a rich, protective patina over time. It’s ideal for customers who love the evolving beauty of metal in the elements.
Satin Lacquered – coated with a clear satin lacquer to help preserve the polished finish

Custom Finishes (quoted upon request):
All of the following finishes are sealed with a clear satin lacquer to help maintain their original tone outdoors:
